This is what I call "FOOD HOME" ❤️❤️❤️
Sometimes when you are away from home and you miss that maa k haat ka khanna, this is one dish that everyone one of you can relate to.πππ. I recently moved to the Netherlands and started my life there, living in the city of canals and cycle lanes. Though I enjoy the Dutch food, a comforting, "MAA K HATH KA KHANNA" cannot beat anything. The most comforting of all is ofcourse DAL CHAWAL. So read on how to make this ππYou will need the following ingredients:
Serves: 4
- 1½ cup mixed dal (lentils)
- 1½ medium onion (finely chopped)
- 1½ tomato (finely chopped)
- 4 cloves of garlic (freshly pounded)
- 2 green chilies (slit)
- 1 small ginger (freshly pounded)
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
- ½ tsp hing powder (asafoetida powder)
- 2 spoon ghee
- ½ spoon garam masala
- ½ lemon
- few curry leaves
- coriander leaves
- salt
1. Soak and cook the dal: Take a bowl and wash and soak the mixed dal for 15 mins. Then, in a cooker place the bowl of soaked dal, add some turmeric powder and salt and cook it for 4 whistles.
2. The Masala: Take a kadai, add some ghee to it. Now add jeera, curry leaves, hing, ginger, garlic and mix it. Add the chopped onions and cook this for few mins till the onions turn brown. Add the tomatoes, red chili powder, and little turmeric (don't add too much turmeric as you have already added it in the dal) and cook for about 2 mins with a lid covering the kadai. After 2 mins add the boiled dal with little water and mix the masalas and dal well. Add garam masala and some coriander leaves and simmer the gas for about 2 min.
3. The tadka: In a small kadai add some ghee, jeera, curry leaves and let these splutter for few seconds. Once this happens add the tadka to the dal and mix.
4. Plating: You can enjoy this amazing tasty mix dal with some steamed rice or chapattis. Just add a dollop of ghee on your rice and it just adds more flavour to the dish.
