Puff pastries are really versatile and works well with both sweet and savoury recipes. You can use it to make bite sized treats or even whole meals. I decided to try my hands on some blueberry jam & fig tarts. It's a very simple, quick sweet-tangy dessert I made with some store bought puff pastry sheets, some blueberry jam and fresh figs. Who knew you can create such an amazing dish with very simple ingredients. Though fig season is almost over it was a great way to use the last of the lot in this way. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
SERVES: 2
PREP TIME: 5 min
COOK TIME: 20 mins
- 1 puff pastry sheet
- 2 tsp of blueberry jam
- 2 ripe figs (cut into semi circles)
- 1 egg
- cookie cutter or saucer
1. Prepare Pastry Sheets: Spread the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. With the help of a cookie cutter cut a circle. Prick the circle with a fork couple of times. Spread the blueberry jam leaving half inch from the corners. Place the figs on top of the jam. Keep it in the refrigerator for about 10 mins.
2. Bake: Pre-heat the oven to 200°C. In a bowl break an egg and whisk it lightly till the yolk is mixed. Remove the pastry from the refrigerator and brush the ends with the egg wash. Bake the pastry for about 10-15 mins till you see the puff pastry turning brown.
3. Plate: Place the tarts onto a cooling rack and once cooled, put it on a plate and serve with a light dusting of icing sugar or some whipped cream on top. Enjoy!
